Some very good points, but there is quite a bit of ahistoricity in this. There has always been quite a lot of “dystopia” for decades within the American Empire, especially for people of colour, or Natives, or a migrants. Lynching and Jim Crow weren’t that long ago, neither was Japanese internment or the McCarthyism that persecuted communists or their sympathizers, and LGBTQ people. And the tint of Russiagate hysteria and anti-Soviet shrill only serves an establishment narrative. I also disagree on Churchill. He was a racist, genocidal monster. And FDR wasn’t as great as some imperial historians would have us believe.

But there are some cogent warnings about authoritarianism. Sadly, few will even see it coming.
